Welcome

Friendship is a church that lives up to her name - when you come to visit, you will be warmly greeted in the love of Christ.  Friendship is a "Church Committed to Making Disciples for Jesus Christ."  Our worship services are a blend of traditional and contemporary music, and the preaching is biblically-centered, relational, and applicable to your daily life.  We have excellent ministries for children and youth.
In our daily lives together, we are proud to be a church that is:

bullet
In ministry with youth and children - we believe we are called to make disciples from newborn through childhood and youth.
bullet
A missional church - we are active in missions internationally, nationally and locally.
bullet
A church of small groups - there are many small group opportunities for missions, service, Bible study and fellowship.
bullet
A caring church - we have a group of dedicated lay ministers who are regularly committed to caring ministries with the sick, homebound, and those going through short and long-term crises.
We hope that you will join us and be transformed by the love Jesus, and the love of His people.  Come and visit!

A Note from the Pastor

“Hypocritical”, “insensitive”, “judgmental”, “boring” these are some of the words that young people who are not Christian use to describe YOU, ME, and the CHURCH. In other words, young Americans share an impression of Christians that is un-Christian, that is, the opposite of what they should see in Jesus followers. In the coming months through sermons, and through a new Bible Study, I will be sharing the results of extensive polls taken by the Barna Group.

These polls resulted in a book called un-Christian, subtitled, “What a new generation really thinks about Christianity and why it matters.” As a follower of Jesus, I was hurt, saddened, and troubled to hear what young people thought of Jesus followers. These impressions have been formed by personal interaction and by the media impressions they receive from watching TV, interacting on Facebook, or surfing the internet.

Why would we want to think about the negative perceptions of non-Christians? First, some of them might be true. Not about all Christians, but about you or me. Secondly, it helps us understand the huge barrier we are facing in today's culture to authentically sharing our Christian faith in a way that invites others to become followers of Jesus.

The other day I was in a convenience store, and a young man had a huge cross on his forearm, with the words “Kneel down ye sinners”. I said to him, “You must be a Jesus follower.” He said, “This cross has no religious meaning to me.” It turns out, the words “Kneel down ye sinners” are from a Rock song by Motley Crue. The point is that we live in a world where things that mean a great deal to us, Jesus, the cross, the Church, our Christian faith hold no religious meaning for others. My hope is that in talking about un-Christian, that we can find authentic ways to share the gospel with the next generation, so that we can “make disciples for Jesus Christ.”

This weekend is about helping our students understand who they are in the family of Christ, and to help them live a life for Christ, to be imitators of Christ, to be The Salt and Light for this world.

The time is drawing near for the “Momentum Youth Rally” at the Hickory Metro Center September 17th and 18th! We have secured a limited number of tickets so please contact Pastor Greg NO LATER than Sunday, September 5th if you wish to purchase tickets. Tickets for both events are $35 per person. Concessions will be available at the Hickory Metro Center so make sure to bring money to purchase your meals for Friday evening and Saturday.

The bus will be leaving the church at 4:30 pm on Friday and will return to the church approx. 11:30 pm. There will be a Late Night Jam session on Friday night with Outpouring, Elishah and 7Miles. If you wish to stay for this session, you will have to let Pastor Greg know and provide your own transportation home as the bus will be leaving immediately after the Worship Session.

Saturday morning, we are leaving at 7:00 am and will return approx. 7:30 pm. If you have any other questions, you can call me or visit their website at http://www.momentumworship.org, they are also on facebook and you can get there via our group page. I believe this will be a great opportunity for our youth, our youth leaders, and any others who feel called to help in the youth ministry at Friendship to experience the presence of God in a brand new way. I look forward to seeing you there.

God Bless,
Pastor Greg

Currently, 3 of our church members are serving overseas in various Military capacities. We are beginning an outreach for these individuals and their units by sending packages of snacks, goodies, books, magazines etc to give them a little piece of home. If you would like to contribute items for this ministry, please call our church secretary between 9am-3pm Monday-Thursdays for more information or to arrange for drop off. The collection area is in the storage room adjacent to the Fellowship Hall on the shelves labeled MILITARY ITEMS.

Monetary Donations to help offset postage can also be made to the church with Military Postage in the memo of your check. If you would like to send a card of encouragement, their addresses are below:
